The issue came up in March when she gained a sudden burst attention, when it became known that Schlapp would be the next candidate to replace Hope Hicks's job as director of communications. The fight turned ugly. Schlapp's allies started fighting Tony Sayegh over the media. Schlapp stated to the Washington Examiner that she spoke with Sayegh about an article that had been published in the past about him.
